Remarkable (or sadly, maybe not so remarkable) interview with Gavin Newsom on the Bay Citizen website. Remarkable because the candidate for lt. governor ducked every single significant issue. Not so remarkable, I guess, because it's just more of what we've seen for years.

And because it really did show his political priorities.

His repsonse, for example, to a question about the cost of higher education in California: "You have to stop all these budget cuts. ... Stop the draconian budget cuts. It's counter to fiscal prudency, economic growth and competitive advantage."

So how do you do that? How do you find the money?

Quack:

"It's a question of priorities, what do you value. San Francisco ... didn't cut in those areas we value."

Oh, so we don't care about services for the poor?

Then there's Prop. 13. His answer to the complete unfairness of the state's property tax system? Quack:

"Difficult questions. It requires a debate, and I'm not afraid of saying we should have a debate about this." Amazing. The almighty duck.

He learned at the feet of the masters

Listening to the endorsement interviews, the "lets have a debate about this" has become the standard mantra of the San Francisco aspiring politician. Newsom is just perpetuating the art.

Once in office the debate is tossed out and we get the Fait accompli legislation though.

The cities do gooders will let you talk about their banning things and new mandates, but they plan on doing whatever it is no matter what anyone outside the club has to say. The new inclusion.

What a dope. I'll be skipping voting for anyone on the Lt. Governor spot on my November 2nd ballot.

Clearly he should embrace The Guardian's priorities

I mean - in the insular world of The Guardian it's unimaginable that anyone would want anything different. The miasma of group-think is really quite blinding.

What a crock. You vote him into another leadership roll just to get him out of a San Francisco's hair. Migden was done the same way and was suppose to be put out to pasture. But she ended up on the D3C.

All Style, No Substance. This has been Newsom's Hallmark. If he does get the Lt. Gov job, it will be our loss. He will have four years to get his name known throughout the state for the next Governor's election. He will be coveting the SoCal vote where his name, and his mistakes are less known.
